I was just listening to a couple of favourite songs I've (re)discovered recently, and really listening to the lyrics. I love beautiful songs with poetic lyrics, but they always seem to be sad or tragic or depressing. But they're so pretty I can't help but listen to them. I hope that doesn't make me masochistic. :P (Actually, now I wonder if they do affect my mood...)
So, has anyone got any songs with lovely lyrics that aren't sad/depressive?
In case anyone's interested, I'm listening to Eric's Song by Vienna Teng
And of course I forgive
I've seen how you live
Like a phoenix you rise from the ashes
You pick up the pieces
And the ghosts in the attic
They never quite leave
and Sleep Well, My Angel by We Are The Fallen
'Cause you see the shelter as the storm
Holding wind to keep you warm,
You are everything to me, this is why I have to leave,
So sleep well my angel.
...and a Nightwish song: Eva. I also had Dark Chest of Wonders (more dreamlike than sad) but it's very long, and I've listened to it so many times I have to be in the mood...
But on a more upbeat note, I'm also listening to Glee's versions of Like A Prayer, It's a Man's Man's Man's World, Papa Don't Preach and Total Eclipse of the Heart. (Like all my fluid playlists, it's rather eclectic. :P I'm loving Dianna Agron's (Quinn's) songs...)
Also, a meme (I think they were lazy with the colouring of their rainbows):
My immediate response - why would anyone be afraid of me? But I kind of like their other points, although I think tranquil's a little too generic and simplistic. Probably would've helped if I'd chosen an option for them all, but it's so hard to choose.
Just for interest's sake I did it again, choosing an answer for everything. All reasonably accurate (the point about hoping my friends get along is especially true!), but now I sound kinda boring. :P Honestly, I do like mystery, I really do. And I'm totally scary... |:| Okay, maybe not, but although I'm generally calm, I do have a temper. It's deep and slow to rise, like Glynna from the Legendsong. But it's there.

Your rainbow is shaded black, blue, and white.
What is says about you: You are a tranquil person. You appreciate mystery. You may meet people who are afraid of you. People depend on you to make them feel secure.

Date: 2010-06-25 12:07 pm (UTC)Actually, most of my top listened tracks in iTunes are instrumental. Mostly from soundtracks, although I love classical music as well. I can't listen to songs when I can't stand the lyrics, but good lyrics along with a lovely melody and/ or good instrumentation will often draw me in. :) It's definitely more about the music.

Maybe Regina Spektor? 'One More Time With Feeling' is one of my favourites by her (plus the added bonus of I think of Buffy's 'Once More With Feeling' episode every time I hear it :P)
If I think of any others, I shall get back to you!

Thanks for the suggestion! :D I just got One More Time With Feeling, and I love it. (I'm sure it will always make me think of Buffy as well, but I agree it's a good thing! :P)
Btw, I love Laura Marling's songs, so I'm glad you mentioned her on (I think) here and Twitter a while back!
