A few thoughts...

A few random thoughts I had lately and couldn't help but share - mostly on random acronyms...

FML - When I first saw FML, I thought it meant f*** myself laughing, and didn't get it. Then I thought maybe it was a reference to situations where you laugh because the only other option is crying. (I still think this kind of makes sense, but I know what it actually means now. :P)

OTP (One True Pairing) - This one's more a question, relating to people talking about their OTP(s) in fandom.* Can you only ever have one OTP, or at least, only one at a time? Or can you have different OTPs for different things? (Because wouldn't the latter defeat the purpose of having a ONE true pair?)**

I have to confess, I kind of love acronyms, although there are only a few I use, and sometimes just for fun. My favourite one currently is TMI (too much information).

* I really like the word "fandom" - I think it's because it could be the name of some faraway land. (I maybe perhaps should be in bed...)
**This point may or may not have been influenced by Prince Henry's ramblings about fate and true love in Ever After...

LOL! FML is pretty funny, but have you heard of MLIA (My Life Is Average)? From the last I checked it's even better than FML. Read it I suggest!

I have this weird way of pronouncing some acronyms. For example, I've always said (in my head) FTW as 'fuh tuh wuh' rather than f-t-w or whatever... I have a love-hate relationship with txtspk acronyms. I use most of the ones that are common chatroom abbreviations (brb, afk), mainly because I spend so much time in chatrooms. But I don't ever use them in text messages, and I have never used txtspk. Also, I absolutely detest the acronym LOL, and will never, ever use it (I always use hahaha or variations instead). I don't know why I dislike LOL, I just do...

As far as OTPs go, I think the usage has widened to mean 'favourite pairing in a particular fandom', so you can have an OTP for, say, Buffy and an OTP for Doctor Who and both are still OTPs.

I tend to mainly ship canonical pairings, and not get too involved with shipping wars, as I think people should be able to enjoy shows/books/movies in their own way and see in them whatever they want to see. Some people take shipping way too seriously.
